Pietrasanta: Art, Coffee & Aperitivo

Pietrasanta is small enough to cross in minutes and interesting enough to occupy the whole day.

We rarely arrive with a strict itinerary.

The pleasure is in moving between coffee, galleries, shops and the piazza, with sculpture appearing almost everywhere in between.

Start slowly

Begin at Sementis Bakery for coffee and breakfast.

From there, walk into the historic centre.

Once the car is parked, you should not need it again.

Look at art

Galleria Susanna Orlando is one of our regular stops.

See what is showing and continue towards Piazza Duomo.

The relationship between Pietrasanta and sculpture becomes clearer once you spend time here. Studios, galleries and public works are not separate from the town; they are part of it.

The Museo Igor Mitoraj adds another layer.

Give it proper time rather than treating it as another stop on a checklist.

Wander

Visit Zoe Boutique, walk the smaller streets and return to the piazza without worrying too much about which route you take.

Pietrasanta rewards exactly this kind of aimlessness.

Aperitivo

By late afternoon we usually want a table at Bar Pietrasantese.

Sit outside, order a drink and watch Piazza Duomo change as people begin arriving for the evening.

Stay for dinner

There is no reason to leave yet.

Walk to Ristoro Il Giglio for dinner, then take the long way back through town afterwards.
